IRON GUARD B.C. IS A NOT FOR PROFIT FELLOWSHIP OF MEMBERS, PRIMARILY LEATHER/LEVI ORIENTED WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO DEVELOP CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP IN THE SPIRIT OF FRIENDSHIP, BROTHERHOOD AND GOODWILL.
We welcome
men over the age of 21 who live within a 50 mile radius of New York City. Iron
Guard is a Brotherhood Club (BC) of men who get together to share and celebrate
our interest in the leather community in a spirit of friendship, good will, and
brotherhood.
Our purpose as a leather club is to display character and leadership in
sustaining, supporting, and nurturing the leather/levi community in New York
City and beyond. Some of us may be bikers, but the club is not a riding
(motorcycle) club. You will find a group of men who are brothers in leather. We
come from all vocations and ages. Our leather unites us in brotherhood. This is
where we have found a group of men who call themselves the men of Iron Guard.
Our colors, the back patch worn by our members, identifies us as Leathermen in
the gay community in New York City.
Iron Guard is a member of the Atlantic Motorcycle Coordinating Council (AMCC)
which is the umbrella organization who coordinates the events and activities of
numerous leather/motorcycle clubs on the eastern seaboard of the United States.
One of the greatest benefits of belonging to AMCC is the opportunity to meet and
socialize with other clubs at runs and events held throughout the year.
Iron Guard also participates in bar nights to raise money for our club and in
conjunction with other clubs in the area. Although we are not a charitable
organization, we have participated in events which have benefited numerous AIDS
charities. We will continue to donate time and/or money to charities we consider
helpful to the LGBT and leather/levi communities.
Highlights
Monthly Meetings
Iron Guard holds meetings on the last Tuesday of each month to socialize and
conduct club business over a casual dinner. All are welcome! We encourage our
members to participate in the leather/levi community; meeting new friends for
our club and for ourselves as individuals.
Anniversary Dinner
Iron Guard was founded in 1975. As one of the oldest clubs in New York City our
mid September Anniversary Dinner is a celebration of the club and its members
each year.
Mickey Garber Award
The Mickey Garber Award was named for one of Iron Guard's most outstanding
members who exemplified the leather/levi lifestyle until tragically meeting his
fate in a motorcycle accident. This award represents Iron Guard's most coveted
honor. The Mickey Garber Award is not conferred every year, but only when an
individual demonstrates unwavering commitment to the club and the leather
community.
Wise Owl Award
First presented to Rick Dawn upon his becoming an Emeritus, the Wise Owl
Award represents the embodiment of what an Iron Guard member can be. The award
is presented to an exemplary member who, in their enthusiasm and dedication have
contributed both their time and energy to the betterment of Iron Guard and its
members.
Certificates of Appreciation
Certificates are awarded to those who have had an integral effect on both Iron
Guard and the leather/levi community in the past year. It is our way of showing
our gratitude and recognition for their support and continuing association with
Iron Guard.
